|
There are other
hunting clubs in our region and elsewhere.
 |
We encourage to check them
out and compare them to Mid America Game Bird Association. |
 |
Dig deep, talk to members
past and present from all of the candidate organization you are
considering. |
 |
As a matter of fact, the more
thoroughly you investigate MAHA and our competitors, the more
confident we are that you will select MAGBA. |
Ask these
questions:
How much land is
available?
How much pressure
is the land you want to use getting?
Is there a
professional, experienced staff managing land utilization and hunting
pressure?
 |
Is it one of those
clubs managed by the members? Sounds good at first, but consider
this.
|
-
Each hunter may
have their own agenda and personal interests in mind when
managing club assets.
-
It is likely that
most members have little or no practical experience in game
management and land owner relations?
-
If a hunter in a
hunter-managed club has a bad day (we all do, or it would be
called shooting instead of hunting)
it is possible that he/she will blame it on land, and work
toward getting a potentially good property dropped from the
club acreage - maybe one that you like (if you were a
member).
-
If the hunter has
a good day, is he/she likely to pass that information on to
other hunters in the club which he/she counts as his/her
competition?
-
If the word
gets out to many about a hot spot, is there anyone managing it
to keep it from getting over hunted and ruined for several
seasons thereafter?
What is the member
retention
rate?
 |
Are the majority of
members long term, or mostly new with a high degree of turnover? |
 |
Are there former
members of one club in which you are interested that are now
members of another, that changed due to dissatisfaction (not asked
to leave due to repeated club rules violations and/or game
law violations)? |
What are the
members like?
Are the majority of
members:
Kansas, Missouri and Iowa both
provide public hunting opportunities that are on par with or better than
most states. At least you can find a place to hunt with at least some
game.
The game and fish and
conservation organizations for both states do an outstanding job with the
resources they have.
But lets face it, you wouldn't
be interested in joining a hunting club if you were satisfied with public
hunting opportunities. We all know, that there will never be as
much high quality, managed acreage per hunter available in the public
areas as in a private hunting club. We have the staff, the financial
resources, and land owner financial incentive the states cannot afford.
What about the Kansas Walk-In
Hunting Area (WIHA) Program? Doesn't that work a lot like
hunting club leases?
 |
WIHA is one of the finest
innovations ever to come along from Kansas Wildlife and Parks. For the
hunter who cannot afford hunting club membership this is an excellent
alternative, very similar to hunting clubs with leased land. |
 |
However, like other public
hunting land, it is unlikely to ever be as good as the best hunting
clubs, like Mid America Game Bird Association. Differences include:
-
There is not as much
acreage available
-
There is no
reservation system to ensure a quality hunt each time you go
out
-
There may be
considerable hunting pressure in some areas

Mid America
Hunting
Association does not offer a guide service, or
provide dogs, etc.
However, the professional
experienced staff will do everything they can to assist you in planning
quality hunts for all available species, saving you a lot of time and leg
work. They are knowledgeable of the properties and species available, and
work closely with the landowners. They can help you tailor your hunts
according to your preferences, size of your party, etc.
The price of a Mid America
Hunting Association is far less than guided hunts.
 |
One or two of weekends of
guided upland bird hunts will cost about the same as a full years
worth of hunting, fishing and camping with MAHA. |
 |
A guided 3-5 day whitetail
deer hunt may cost several times the cost of MAHA annual dues which
covers a full year of hunting, fishing and camping. |
Mid America
Hunting
Association does not offer shooting preserves.
However, the professional
experienced staff will put you in touch with some if you need a place
to work your bird dogs, etc.
The price of a Mid America
Hunting Association is far less than that of hunting preserves.
All Mid America
Hunting
Association leases feature wild game, never raised and released birds.
All Mid America
Hunting
Association leases feature natural habitat, never penned-in game.
If you have friends or
relatives with good property that are willing to give you permission to
hunt, treat them well for you are very fortunate.
However, few people have
enough contacts for permission to hunt for a wide variety of upland game,
waterfowl, deer, and turkey, with both good quality and quantity for
multiple species. For the hunter who is out for multiple types of hunting,
weekend after weekend, you need access to a lot of acreage.
Waking up to a farm house and
asking a farmer you have never met for permission to hunt his land is
getting harder and harder to do. Especially if the farm is within two
hours drive of a large city, many farmers have had bad experiences with
hunters and are reluctant to grant permission.
Why is MAHA Fishing Better?
Most of the information on this web site focuses
on why Mid America Hunting Association is possibly the best thing to ever
come along for the hunter. Does the same apply for fishing?
Our leases have a large assortment of farm ponds,
strip pits (reclaimed strip mines), and irrigation lakes that have produced
many trophy fish over the years.
Good public fishing is usually easier to find in
Kansas, Missouri and Iowa than good public hunting. But, you may prefer to fish
private leases instead of public lakes and reservoirs if:
-
You want to avoid congested lakes with heavy
boat traffic, noise and wakes
-
You may want to avoid skiers and personal
watercraft
-
You might like the peace and serenity, and
the natural experience of fishing a private lake, farm pond, a strip
pit, or a Missouri
River blue hole you have reserved all to yourself and your party for
the day
-
You may prefer to look up on the banks and
see deer, furbearers and other wildlife, rather than the wild life of
lake "party-ers" and rows of lakefront houses and docks
If you like to relax and enjoy yourself rather
than dodge dozens of speeding bass boats and ski boats - we have got what you
are looking for. We have dozens of private properties with excellent fishing
for private fishing opportunities in a reservation basis. Non-members don't
have access to these properties, and there are relatively few fishermen in the
club, which adds up to fishing spots where there a lots of fish and lots of
big fish. Many of these properties offer good private camping which provides
for peaceful and fun outings for the whole family.
Like most things in life you have the
"masses" and you have the "classes", and our fishing opportunities
are in a class of their own. Avoid the masses, and come wet a
line with us!
