Kansas is always one of the top pheasant hunting states in the country. Our members have thousands of acres to pick from. Portions of Missouri are also second to none for pheasant, especially northern Missouri in the counties just below the Iowa border. Quail hunting can be combined with pheasant in some areas of Kansas, Missouri and Iowa.

Hunting pheasant in Kansas is pheasant hunters’ heaven. North Central and North Western Kansas have high pheasant population densities, with Norton, Kansas advertising itself as the Pheasant Hunting Capital of the Nation. From North Central Kansas, southern Iowa through North Missouri yields pheasant and quail.

Is pheasant hunting in Kansas good? See the pheasant population distribution map. It shows the significantly higher pheasant densities, over larger areas in Kansas than other states. Kansas also has a long pheasant hunting season starting the second Saturday in November and running through the last day of January. Our warmer climate as compared to the northern states of Montana and the Dakotas, allows for more pheasant hunting pleasure and fewer days sitting out extreme weather in the hotel room. Add this to our overlapping quail and pheasant ranges with the Prairie Chicken as a bonus makes Kansas truly the bird hunters’ heaven.

Every day's good pheasant hunting, just some days you get more birds.

Many times pheasant hunters limit out on pheasants in one circular walk around a single CRP field. Shooting a four pheasant limit per hunter is not unusual.  Doing it in one field on one walk and frequently is and what Kansas has to offer.

Northern Missouri also has very good pheasant hunting.  The only differences are more quail and the pheasant bag limit is two birds where Kansas allows four pheasants per day.
