Further Research
A research method for those that may be thinking the hunting we offer are a right choice for them would be to read several of our hunter testimonials.
Next a reading of the rules will set the basis for the relationship between the hunter and the Association.
Between those sources the Association applicant may develop some test questions to call and ask us. If during that initial telephone conversation we believe we could work together we will offer many current Association hunter names and telephone numbers to call and ask the same set of questions. The consistency of answers will give the degree of reliability of what may be expected of our hunt quality.
Outfitter Or Us
One comparison of our approach to paid hunting for the do it yourself pheasant hunter is to that of a guided hunting lodge. Or, outfitter using the tall grass.
A guide operation will maximize its tall grass acreage due to the tall grass characteristic of concentrating large numbers of pheasant in a relatively small area. The value is to hold them from day to day in spite of pressure, both planted and wild birds. The value to the pheasants hunting outfitter is getting their clients into as many pheasants as soon as possible to gain a limit and have a satisfied customer.
Guided hunters seek bird numbers quick and at the least expense of energy. They want that picture and reward of many pheasants in a pile. Guided clients will evaluate the hunt simply by the number of limits achieved. The faster a limit is achieved the faster the guide can be done with that client. Move in some more high dollar clients and maximize his income.
Now compare the above description to that of the do it yourself pheasant hunter with his own bird dogs. The do it yourself pheasant hunter will also hunt the tall grass to gain a pheasant limit quick. Usually quicker hunting over his dog than that of a line of non-dog owning guided hunters being escorted around. The difference comes in that for the bird dog owning pheasant hunter working the grass is fine for getting birds and very poor for daily hunting enjoyment of watching his dog work.
After a day of tall grass hunting that same hunter will seek a brush filled draw or soft crop edge habitat. This is to get away from the monotony of single habitat type grass hunting. Plus the opportunity to see his dog in action on less thick cover. Add to this the opportunity for a mixed bag quail and pheasant hunt and it gets all the better. Our approach alls all to hunt the tall grass on their choosing. Then spend more time in the draws and crop fields.
The difference of course is based on the motivation for the pheasant hunter. Is it strictly bird numbers or enjoyment of the hunt. Most of us with dogs would never think of hunting without a dog. We chose to work with dog owning upland bird hunters. We simply tell those that call to hunt and do not own dogs that we are not for them.
Our Narrow Focus
Do it yourself wild Iowa pheasant hunting for those upland bird hunters with their own dogs.
We provide the land, recommendations where to hunt, a lodging list and the hunter simply hunts. It is not free. It is reasonable trade of dollars for time in the field especially that for wild birds.
For 2011 Kansas Hunting Will Beat Iowa Pheasant Hunting
Self Guided Kansas Pheasant Hunt
Within our Association each upland bird hunter may hunt pheasant and quail in Iowa, Missouri and Kansas all for the same cost. With our having upland bird productive habitat spread across three states there is always one region or more with good bird populations regardless of any one localities bad weather effects that year.
John,
We just got back from [location deleted] and thought I would share some pics. The hunting was really good up until the ice storm.
